Bristol County Massachusetts

Bristol County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, adjacent to the state of Rhode Island. As of 2005, the population was estimated at 546,331. Some governmental functions are performed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, others by the county, and others by local towns and cities. Despite multiple seats being displayed on some maps, the formal county seat is Taunton; Fall River and New Bedford are not county seats, but there are some courthouses and other county-operated facilities in those two places. The property deed records are kept in Taunton, Attleboro, Fall River, and New Bedford. The adjacent counties are Plymouth County, Norfolk County, Bristol County, Rhode Island, Newport County, Rhode Island, Providence County, Rhode Island, and Dukes County.

Essex County Massachusetts

Essex County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Massachusetts. As of 2008, the population was 736,457. It has two traditional county seats: Salem and Lawrence. Its county government was abolished in 1999, though it continues to exist as a historic geographic area.

Middlesex County Massachusetts (including Metrowest)

Middlesex County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, and the most populous county in New England. As of 2008, the population was 1,482,478. The center of population of Massachusetts is in Natick, Middlesex County. The county seats are Cambridge and Lowell. The county government was abolished in 1997, but the county boundaries continue to describe a state district for court jurisdictions and for other administrative purposes.

Norfolk County Massachusetts

Norfolk County was created on March 26, 1793 by legistation signed by Gov. John Hancock. Most of the towns were originally part of Suffolk County. The towns of Dorchester and Roxbury were part of Norfolk County when it was created but, as Boston gradually annexed them, they returned to be part of Suffolk County. Hingham and Hull were originally part of the Norfolk County legislation but petitioned to remain in Suffolk county and in June 1793 their removal to Norfolk county was repealed. Later in 1803 they were moved into Plymouth County. Norfolk county is also the birthplace of four of the individuals who have held the office of President of the United States (John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John F. Kennedy, and George H.W. Bush), resulting in the moniker “County of Presidents.”

Plymouth County Massachusetts

Plymouth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. As of 2000, the population was 472,822. Its county seats are Plymouth and Brockton. In 1685 the County was created by the Plymouth General Court.

Suffolk County and Boston Massachusetts

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is sometimes regarded as the unofficial “Capital of New England” for its economic and cultural impact. Boston city proper had a 2008 estimated population of 620,535, making it the twenty-first largest in the country. Boston is also the anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.5 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan area in the country.
